Entry 3

 For this blog post I will be discussing the Key and Peele video watched during the lecture “Is This Country Song Racist” in week four. Watching this made me reflect on the many underlying racist things that many white people defend to this day. 


In this video we see town black men hanging out in a room when one of them suggests that he would like to play a new song that he wrote. He begins to play the song, and the lyrics are full of very racist comments before being interrupted and confronted by his friend. This process repeats for a few different songs before the other friend gets frustrated and storms off. The other friend begins to play again before he has the realization of how offensive his songs are. 


This makes me think of many things going on in the world today especially with the republican's party major push back on anything that does not celebrate the unpopular conservative agenda. For example, when it was announced that American artist Bad Bunny would be doing the super bowl halftime show, there were many complaints about how there wouldn’t be a show in English. Calling him terrible names and disregarding one of the most popular artists in the world. 


Many of these haters went as far as to hold an “alternate” half time show that was headlined by none other than Kid rock. An artist who spends more time and money pushing homophobic agendas than he does making quality music. This only came about when many of these people claimed that their hate was not racist but to support an American style show. Little did they know because of the lack of research, Bad Bunny is and always has been an American citizen. I am just waiting for their moment of realization that we see at the end of this example video in class.

For this blog I will be going over our week seven lecture and talking about my stance on our homeless categorization in the media. We talked about many of the different issues and labels homeless people get in the media today and how it has been lost throughout the media on what these people are going through. In class we spoke about how only twenty percent of the homeless people in this country are struggling with drug addiction or mental illness while the rest simply do not have a permanent home to go to. This narrative in my eyes mainly started with social media and the news. Ninety Nine percent of the time when you see news coverage on homeless people or videos on the internet. It shows someone deep in drug addiction having trouble with their mental health and not in a great state of being. Entry 4

  For this blog I will be covering some parts of our lecture and the examples used to support it in week 5. This was the week we went over body image and beauty standards in our society for women. Speaking on how it has vaguely changed over the years but from everything for media representation to toys have a standard. The example video used in the class was the Carls Jr super bowl commercial. It is just a standard Carl's Jr commercial but that is the overall issue. They are known for their outrages, overly gorgeous, and predominantly blonde girls they use to advertise their fast food. Every single one of their ads, just like this one. Show us this almost fake looking woman in a bikini telling us that their next new food item is their favorite and a must try. Obviously, these ads are huge among men but it’s not the same story for women.  These types of commercials are just one of many reasons that the beauty standard for women has been unrealistic and devastating for years. Entry 1

  For my first entry I will discuss my stance and understanding of the materials we covered in week two of our class. One of the things that first came to mind in this week's material was the Key and Peele video titled “Hoodie.” This is a quick video that shows a Black man walking home from school through a neighborhood and the white people acting rather terrified of him. It starts with a mom pulling her two kids inside from playing as the man walks down the sidewalk. Then we see a white man mowing his lawn who is staring this man down with hostility on his face. The punchline of the video is when a cop is driving up on this man and the young man pulls his hoodie over his head and we see a white face on the outside of this hoodie.
